Kathmandu: Russian ambassador to Nepal Dr. Sergey Vasilievich Velichkin has pointed out that ongoing close and public dialogue between principal forces in Nepal have been taking the ongoing peace and constitution writing processes in Nepal.
Ambassador Velichkin said that both process were gradually gaining momentum due to a corresponding momentum in inter-party dialogue between lead political parties while speaking in an interview given to President of Reporters Club Nepal on Tuesday.
” Due to the momentum gained in close talks, those in public and in private, among principal political forces, both processes are gaining momentum,” said the ambassador while ruling out the possibility of finding alternative to the present political leadership.
” These are the politicians that you have. You cannot have someone to drop from the sky to find solutions for the problems,” said the ambassador while expressing confidence in the Nepal’s political parties to take both process to logical conclusions.
Stating that one should not interpret situations in complete melancholic and dramatize everything in opposite view in politics, the envoy said the people had every right ask their leaders for speedy and prompt answers to national needs.
While asserting that democracy means transparency, accountability and something moved by popular will, he said that with the institutionalization of the ongoing peace process and with the promulgation of the new constitution, Nepal will gain stability in the years to come.
While reaffirming Russia’s support to Nepal in such endeavors, he expressed hopes to expand bilateral relationships between both countries under the guidance of Russia’s newly elected President.
In a request to attend a round table conference between participated by the major development partners of Nepal including Russia, China, USA, India, UK, the envoy said that he would participate in such an event provided that the conference is aimed at contributing to Nepal’s ongoing efforts.
He claimed that international community should not only suggest but should contribute to Nepal’s endeavors with all primacy for the Nepalese actors to conclude peace and constitution writing process.
Furthermore he appreciated the role played by the Reporters’ Club Nepal in bringing clarity on the concerned issues and thereby benefitting the general public and to the processes itself.
“The club has been playing constructive role. On a number of occasion, interactions held at the Club contributed to bring some clarity on the concerned issues and have benefitted to the general public and also for the benefit of the process itself,” said the ambassador.
He expressed hope that the proposed conference between the diplomatic representatives will also move ahead in the same spirit and contribute to the processes.
